Key Learning Objective: Veterinary professionals will learn to recognize signs of burnout in themselves and their team members in order to improve prevention and facilitate recovery from a state of burnout.
Session Summary
Self-care must be a priority for veterinary professionals. In this lecture, we’ll discuss how to recognize signs of burnout in ourselves and our team. We will also discuss how to recover from burnout and prevention strategies, including the essential tools of boundaries and resiliency.
About Dr. Kate Boatright, VMD
Dr. Kate Boatright has been in small animal practice since graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. After nearly 8 years of full-time practice in both general practice and emergency clinics, she moved to part-time clinical work to pursue her passion for educating veterinary professionals as a freelance speaker and author. Dr. Boatright enjoys educating veterinary students and colleagues about communication, team building, mentorship, and the unique challenges facing recent graduates. She believes deeply in the role of organized veterinary medicine and holds leadership positions in the AVMA as well as her local and state VMAs. As a veterinary student, she served as the 2011 National Vice President of the Veterinary Business Management Association and helped to found the alumni branch of this organization. In her remaining time, she stays busy chasing her toddler, running, reading, and watching movies with her husband and cats.
